Research

Dr. Dhongde’s research is focused on the economics of poverty. “Eradicating extreme poverty in all its forms everywhere by 2030” is the first of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Poverty is a multidimensional concept and is often not captured by income levels. Often the policy debate centers on the precise measurement of poverty and inequality. Dr. Dhongde’s research contributes to this debate by providing alternative measures of poverty, inequality and deprivation across multiple dimensions. Dr. Dhongde has made extensive contribution in estimating multidimensional poverty in the United States. She also has published papers on health and education in Ethiopia, India, Mexico and Vietnam.
